Winemaker Notes
This enticing Riesling displays layered aromas of pineapple, Bosc pear, fresh ginger, lemon zest and chamomile tea, with fascinating undercurrents of lemongrass, honeysuckle and jasmine. On the palate, a beam of wet-stone minerality adds poise and polish to flavors of lemon-curd, grapefruit pith, hibiscus, honey and apricot, with lees aging in large oak casks and stainless steel adding to this wine’s shapely texture and satiny finish. The expansive palate finishes clean and dry, owing to bright and fresh natural acidity.
Production
Following a cold winter and spring, our Riesling from the Royal Slope AVA set a normal-sized crop with ideal healthy clusters. The arrival of warm, summer weather throughout July and August combined with low soil moisture kept canopy growth in check, while ensuring slow, measured ripening of the grapes. As harvest neared, the weather remained temperate and giving, and we performed a final leaf thinning in late September to provide the fruit with ideal airflow and autumn sunlight. We picked our Riesling on October 10th, 2020, when the clusters were a lustrous yellow, ensuring a beautifully complex and dynamic wine with tantalizing fresh fruit and floral layers.
